MOOERS -- The Northeastern Clinton Central School Board of Education held a special meeting Sept. 19 at 6:30 a.m. The board declared an emergency project to remove the carpet in the Mooers kindergarten rooms. Mold was found beneath the carpets earlier this week. Once approval is granted by the State Education Department, an asbestos abatement contractor will be hired to remove the carpets and the tile beneath it. Tile floor will be installed.
Several parents attended an informational meeting Tuesday evening after the school had been closed for the day to investigate an odor. Students will not be in the Matthews Wing of the building until all work is completed. The State Education Department and Clinton County Health Department are aware of actions taken by the district. Earlier this week the kindergarten classes were relocated within the building. The first-grade classes are next door at St. Joseph's catechetical center.
