Unless rain falls within the next few days, large tracks of Adirondack forest land will be ruined by many forest fires now burning in all parts of the north woods.

The water in the lake is at present the lowest it has been since 1881 and within six inches of the lowest mark known. Figuring from the high-water mark of the year 1869, it has fallen eight feet, 10 inches.
