WILLSBORO -- The final work has been completed on Willsboro Central's newest playground unit.
"This has been a two-year endeavor and a true school-community partnership," said Superintendent Steve Broadwell.
"We would like to thank all the individuals that helped make this a reality for our children. Our elementary staff with Pam Drollette as the chairperson, the Town of Willsboro Highway Department under the direction of Pete Jacques, the school district and many volunteers partnered to help assemble our new playground structure.
"We truly appreciate everyone's help in making this a reality. It will be a structure that the children of the school and the community will enjoy for many, many years."
Special thanks and recognition was given to Rich Drollette for his time and expertise in directing the construction of the new unit.
The project culminates two years of planning and fundraising efforts. The school district budgeted money toward the new playground equipment as well as additional fundraising efforts by elementary teachers, including the "Pennies for the Playground Campaign" headed by Robin Blanchard, as well as a major fundraising event of a boat cruise this summer organized by Pam Drollette, Rhonda Sloper and Lorilee Sheehan.
"Everyone truly came together for this project and we are truly thankful. I am sure our students will enjoy the new playground equipment at recess beginning this year," Broadwell said.
