MINEVILLE -- A Mineville home was destroyed by fire Friday night.
Flames erupted inside a residence at 123 Pilfershire Road around 10 p.m. and quickly consumed the structure.
Area firefighters arrived to the home within minutes of when the fire was reported, but were unable to save the residence.
Volunteers with the Mineville-Witherbee, Moriah, Port Henry, Crown Point, Westport and North Hudson fire departments spent nearly five hours battling the fire and trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
The late-night call also brought out Moriah EMS and crews from the Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga fire departments, who provided standby support at the local station.
Red Cross officials were later notified of the blaze, though it was unclear whether they were assisting the displaced family, whose names were not available Saturday.
Officials with the Essex County Cause and Origin team were continuing to investigate the fire Saturday.
The Mineville-Witherbee fire chief could not be reached for comment Saturday. The cause of the fire and other additional information was unavailable.
