West Chazy Library District vote on Tuesday

WEST CHAZY "" Voters decide Tuesday whether to establish the West Chazy Library District, which would allow taxes to be levied in support of Dodge Library. The vote will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the library on Fiske Road. Qualified to vote are residents who live in the Town of Chazy but not in Chazy Central Rural School District, are at least 18 years of age and are registered with Clinton County Board of Elections.

The tax rate in 2008 would be about 25 cents per $1,000 assessed property value, bringing in $19,182. District formation would allow a reliable source of income for the library, which in the past has been funded by grants and fundraisers, along with a yearly contribution of $6,500 from Beekmantown Central School District.

Dodge Library not only lends books, but has computers, summer reading programs for children and special presentations on various topics throughout the year. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
