MORIAH — Hudson Headwaters Health Network is getting $2.26 million from the Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program to update health-care technology and improve facilities.

Hudson Headwaters operates health centers in Moriah, Ticonderoga and a dozen other Adirondack communities.

It will use the money to purchase new health-information-technologies systems and expand the use of electronic health records.

Congressman Scott Murphy (D-NY) applauded First Lady Michelle Obama's announcement of the release of $851 million in health-care grants.

"As we work to reform our health-care system, it is important that we continue to make investments that will drive down costs of health care," Murphy said in a news release.

"Our doctors should be able to spend their time treating patients, not filling out paperwork. By investing in health-care-information technology, we will improve services while also making health care more affordable.

"I look forward to continuing to work to implement recovery-act funds to jump-start our economy and improve the quality of our health care, education and infrastructure."

Glens Falls-based Hudson Headwaters Health Network is the only health-care provider in some rural communities. Its operations are funded by patient-services revenue and federal grants, such as the Capital Improvement Program.

"The federal government is ensuring that there will be a safety net of care for the most needy," said Dr. John Rugge, chief executive officer of Hudson Headwaters Health Network.

"This award will enable us to move ahead with vitally important health-care improvements, including partial funding for an electronic medical-record system and renovations at our two largest health centers: the Health Center on Broad Street in Glens Falls and the Warrensburg Health Center."
