ST. REGIS FALLS — Taxes will increase 5.66 percent in the proposed 2009-10 budget in the St. Regis Falls Central School District.

The overall budget is $7,590,163, up only 0.22 percent from this year.

The amount to be raised by taxes is $2,552,000, an increase of 5.66 percent.

The tax rate per $1,000 of assessed-property value is increasing across the five communities that contribute to the school tax.

The rates in the Town of Dickinson are estimated to go from $24.16 to $25.53 per $1,000; in Hopkinton, from $16.95 to $17.91; in Lawrence, from $15.52 to $16.39; in Santa Clara, from $16.33 to $17.25; and in Waverly, from $24.91 to $26.32.

The budget vote will be held noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the school library.

One of the areas where the district saved a great deal of money in formulating its budget was in fuel oil and diesel fuel.

"The district is able to realize a cost savings of $126,745," said Susan Perkins, the district's business manager.

Voters will also be asked to support a proposition to purchase one 65-passenger school bus at a cost not to exceed $112,424.

Two seats on the School Board will also go before voters. There is a one-year unexpired term and a five-year term on the board. The person receiving the most votes will earn the five-year seat.

Two people are interested in running for the open seats, Christopher Goodrow and Jeannie Wood, who has been serving the unexpired term vacated by Patricia Farmer which expires June 20, 2010.
