VERMONTVILLE -- A motorcyclist and another driver were injured Friday night when they collided with a wandering moose.

Cynthia Ramsey, 48, of Lowville was driving east on Route 3 around 9 p.m. when she spotted the large animal in the road near Sugarbush Hill.

Unable to stop, she careened into the moose.

She was the first of three drivers to hit the animal.

After the moose crashed onto the hood of Ramsey's vehicle, it flopped into the other lane of traffic and was run over by an oncoming Sunmount van being driven by Morris Wells, 38, of Tupper Lake.

As the van slowed, the moose was hit again, this time by an oncoming motorcycle being driven by Mark Trudeau, 23, of Saranac Lake.

Trudeau was injured when he slammed into the dead moose and was transported to Adirondack Medical Center, where he was treated for cuts and abrasions and was later released.

Ray Brook-based State Police said Ramsey sustained minor injuries when her airbag deployed and was also taken to the Saranac Lake hospital for treatment.

Wells and five occupants in the van were not injured.

Police said no tickets were issued during the three-vehicle accident.

Traffic was briefly disrupted after the collisions as crews worked to clear the road and tow away the damaged vehicles.

Police said officials with the Department of Environmental Conservation were notified of the deceased animal.
